Abstract

Hypertension in pregnancy is not uncommon in obstetrics and is one of the high risk categories which poses threat to the well-being to mother and her fetus. Pre-eclampsia, a form of hypertension characterised with high blood pressure and proteinuria after 20 weeks gestation, can lead to multiorgan dysfunction when timely treatment is not available. Midwife shares importance in caring hypertensive women by accurate assessing, monitoring, implementing treatment and re-evaluating the condition of the woman. She helps in early detection of the disease by providing keen observation on the woman. On the other hand, using empathetic and informative approach to counsel the woman contributes to psychological comfort, which will achieve better understanding of the disease and compliance of the treatment in return.
