Advances in ultrasound technology have revolutionised the practice of obstetrics and midwifery. Ultrasound examination has become an integral part of the management of both normal and abnormal pregnancies. This article described our experience in the development of a midwife-based obstetric ultrasound service, focusing on the training and quality assurance. We believe that our experience could be of value to those who would like to develop similar service. (HKJGOM 2001; 2:68-72)
